WELCOMING WILDLIFE

Allowing, and even inviting, wildlife to live on your property is such a great thing.

I wouldn't want to be sprayed by one but, I love seeing skunks in my yard. Baby skunks are so cute!

In my experience the babies will sometimes come up close to you out of curiosity and the adults just turn around and waddle off in the opposite direction if you cross paths.

I don't think they go around looking for someone to spray so, you should be ok as long as you don't threaten them.

As well as skunks, I'm visited by raccoons, possums and deer. All are welcome.

I hope to not only keep a welcoming yard for animals but for insects too.

If I had my way, it would be common practice for everyone to have tiny houses throughout their yards that could be used by various animals for nesting. One of these days, when I have the time and money, I plan to build quite a few of these for my yard. In my mind it would look like a tiny Swiss Village.

I even thought about the possiblity of building little houses that sit on the roof of your house. That way, maybe rodents wouldn't need to get inside the attic.

I know these things must sound crazy to a lot of people, but they're something I've wanted to do for years.

Recently I heard about a company that kind of does this same thing for bats. (So maybe I'm not so crazy)

I heard about it on a podcast so I looked it up and, sure enough, it's for real. They said the same thing about bats that I had been saying about rats. They need to live somewhere so, why not give them a spot on your house, so they don't go in your house.

I Googled Rat BNB and didn't find anything so, I guess I'll have to be the first.

The point is, we could all do better to accept, respect, promote and appreciate nature and wildlife.
