COGNITIVE DISSONANCE

Cognitive dissonance describes the discomfort experienced when two cognitions are incompatible with each other. A cognition is a piece of knowledge, such as a thought, a belief, an attitude, or personal value.

It is important to learn to hold two, or more, opposing ideas in your head until you are able to gather enough information to make an informed decision on which to believe. Sometimes this can take a very long time, or forever.

You may have to decide not to decide, and learn to live with that.

Yes, it's uncomfortable. But it's better to admit you don't know what you don't know, whether to yourself or other's, than to make rash decisions about things you don't really know.

Often we hold beliefs that were taught to us, that we never questioned. Understand that Belief can be the enemy of Knowing. In that if you believe something too strongly it may cause you to not search any further for the truth to lead you to the point of knowing.
